Get Protected Properly

Have peace of mind that your personally arranged life and/or critical illness cover would cover an outstanding mortgage or other financial commitments protecting those that matter.

As a member of the Armed Forces you won’t be able to buy online via LifeSearch. You will see prices from suitable insurers and can then apply directly through your chosen provider’s website.  From our experience the four providers that offer the most comprehensive cover for the military are: Legal & General, Aviva, Vitality Life and Guardian.

In order to avoid completing the application twice you might prefer to speak to an advisor. You will have access to a dedicated team for military customers. Complete the enquiry form or call them now on 0800 975 1208. They are available Mon-Fri 8am-8pm, Sat 9-2pm and Sun 10am-3.30pm.

Veterans Personal Accident Insurance protects you and your family if your suffer an injury that prevents you from working.

Why do I need Armed Forces Life Insurance?

Whilst the Armed Forces Compensation scheme would offer a lump sum in the event of injury whilst on duty, and the Armed Forces Pension scheme would pay a benefit in the event of death whilst on or off duty, both are unlikely to provide enough cover for your family.

Having personally arranged armed forces life and critical illness cover gives you peace of mind that an outstanding mortgage or other financial commitments would be covered if the worst was to happen.

What do I need to think about?

Not everyone needs life insurance, that’s why it’s worth speaking to LifeSearch to talk through your personal circumstances and your protection options.

If you have a family that you want to protect if you were not longer around, it is definitely worth considering life insurance and asking yourself questions such as:

  • What would they have to change financially if I wasn’t around?
  • Are there any other means of financial support? Assets or savings?
  • Could they manage without my income?

Military Life Insurance FAQs

Military life insurance can be a complex product, and it’s easy to get lost in the jargon that can make it confusing. That’s why, with this page and the FAQs below, we hope to answer your questions and clear up any uncertainty you may have. If you can’t find the answer to your question, want to ask more about a policy or are ready to organise military life insurance, speak to our specialist partner, LifeSearch, today. You can call them on 0800 975 1208 to explore policy options.

Does life insurance cover military death?

It can, but active service and deployment are exactly why it’s important to get the right policy. Some insurers apply specific terms or the premium can be increased around active service, operations or travel to higher-risk areas. These may vary from provider to provider, so cover shouldn’t be assumed. That is why Trinity works with LifeSearch, whose advisers understand military life and can match you with an insurer that suits your role and circumstances. Speaking to an adviser before you apply is the best way to make sure the cover you take out gives you what you need. **Compliance check needed**

Do you get life insurance in the military?

The military doesn’t provide personal life insurance, but serving personnel do have some financial protection called death in service through the Armed Forces Pension Scheme and the Armed Forces Compensation Scheme, which provides support where injury, illness or death is caused by service. For most people, this is unlikely to be enough on its own to clear a mortgage or replace lost income, which is why many choose to arrange their own cover on top of it.

How much is military life insurance?

There is no fixed price for military life insurance. Your premium depends on your age, the length of the policy, the cover you want, your general health and your role in the military. Trinity works with LifeSearch, who compare quotes from forces-friendly insurers so you can see costs based on your circumstances. You can then apply directly via your chosen provider. For a personalised quote, call 0800 975 1208.

How much does military life insurance pay out?

The payout is the level of cover you choose when you set up the policy. Most people choose an amount that would clear the mortgage and leave enough to support their family. An adviser can help you find a policy that remains affordable and beneficial.

Can reservists get military life insurance?

Yes. Reservists can arrange military life insurance in the same way as regular military personnel. LifeSearch will take your reservist service into account when helping you find suitable cover.

Does military life insurance cover critical illness?

Life insurance and critical illness cover are two different things but are often combined. Life insurance pays out if you die, while critical illness cover pays a lump sum if you are diagnosed with a serious illness that is listed in the policy. LifeSearch can arrange either separately or together

Can I get life insurance for my military spouse or family?

Yes. Cover for Life insurance and/or Critical Illness can be arranged for you, your partner or your family. This can be a separate or a joint policy. Income Protection is also available for the non-serving partners. Speak to an adviser to see what works best for your household.

What are the best life insurance options for military personnel?

The right cover depends on your circumstances. As a result, there is no single “best policy.” At Trinity, we work with LifeSearch, who compare cover from a range of well-known and specialist insurers. In our experience, the four providers offering the most comprehensive life insurance for military personnel are Aviva, Legal & General, Vitality Life and Guardian. The LifeSearch team will help you find the best options for your needs.

Do I have to pay LifeSearch for advice for military life insurance?

No. LifeSearch’s protection advice is fee-free. You won’t pay them a fee for comparing quotes or setting up your cover. They are an independent broker who’ll talk you through the options and costs with no obligation for you to proceed.
