Armed Forces Kit Insurance Made Simple
What is Military Kit Insurance?
Military Kit Insurance is a specialist policy for serving members of the British Army, Royal Navy, Royal Marines and RAF. The cover protects military-issued equipment, personally purchased kit, contents and personal belongings against loss, theft and accidental damage.
It is vital for those in single living accommodation on barracks, service family accommodation or on deployment, where individuals can be personally liable for costly replacements.
Trinity’s Military Kit Insurance is designed specifically for service life, offering clear, worldwide cover with flexible cover levels so you only pay for what you need, making it a trusted choice for reliable protection when it matters most.
Why do you need Kit cover?
In the event of damage, accidental loss or theft you could be liable to replace your armed forces issued kit. A forces kit, contents and personal possessions insurance policy from Trinity covers for loss, damage, fire and theft to your issued or temporary uniform and equipment.
When adding on personal possessions cover it also includes your own items such as laptops and mobile phones as well as protection for your belongings in either your single living accommodation (SLA) or in your service family accommodation (SFA), and that’s worldwide.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. If you have a legal problem and need to discuss it with someone, there is a legal helpline for you to use whichever country you are based in. In certain areas such as employment disputes, contractual disputes and personal injury you can be provided with up to £100,000 of legal expenses.
Excess is £50 per claim except for mobiles which is £75 per claim. In respect of goods in transit the excess is increased to £250 for claims occurring within the first three months. For watches and pieces of jewellery between £4,000-£6,000 the excess is £350. You should refer to the policy wording for detailed information on the excess amounts.
If you live in service accommodation, you are responsible for any damage up to the sum currently advised by the MOD. In August 2011, this was set at £20,000 – this applies whether you are living as a single person or in a married quarter. Our military kit policy automatically includes licence to occupy insurance coverage should you cause any damage to your accommodation.
When you are moving around, such as deployment or posting overseas, your belongings are covered in transit and storage if required as long as moved by the MOD or you use a professional mover. You can always give us a call if you want to check anything.
Our military kit policy is for serving military and reservists and their families. Whether you are in single living accommodation or service family accommodation, you can take out the level of cover you need for your kit, your personal items and the contents of your room or your home.
HCCI Claims handles claims on behalf of Tokio Marine HCC International, the underwriter of the military kit policy. You must notify them of any claims within 30 days of the event or, if you are on active duty, deployed, or training at the time of the event, within 30 days of your return from active duty.
To make a claim you can use the following options:
Telephone: 0808 175 4908 (freephone)
Overseas Telephone: 0044 808 175 4908
Email: TRIClaims@tmhcc.com
Claims in writing should be directed to: HCCI Claims, Unit 7, Bocam Park, Old Field Road, Pencoed, Bridgend CF35 5LJ
Most customers pay by monthly direct debit on the 1st of each month however there is an option to pay annually, also by direct debit.
Our military kit policy doesn’t cover deliberate damage and wear and tear as well as damage, loss or theft before the policy was put in place.
Mobile phones over £500 aren’t covered unless they are specified and on your insurance schedule. Bikes over £400 in total also need a top up cover (the policy covers bikes up to £400). The excess that you will be required to pay in the event of a claim is also not covered.
It’s always worth reading the IPID (Insurance Product Information Document) as that is a good summary of what’s covered and what’s not covered.
You could be offered £100k of contents insurance cover but do you even have belongings worth that much in your home? We estimate around £20,000 is enough for a one-bed flat and around £40,000 for a four-bed house.
Don’t be blindsided by the big numbers, just take out what you need so your policy is customised to you, and don’t forget to include items such as Pedal cycles stored elsewhere in your property such as your garage or loft if you have one.
Same goes for your military kit insurance cover – make sure you have enough to cover any items and understand what you would be billed by the MOD if you did lose or damage an item.
