From Monday 22nd June to Saturday 27th June 2026, communities across the UK will come together to mark Armed Forces Week – a national week of recognition for the people who serve, support and strengthen the Armed Forces community every day.
Whether you are currently serving, new to military life or simply want to show your support, Armed Forces Week is an opportunity to come together and recognise what the Armed Forces community represents.
What is Armed Forces Week?
Since 2006, Armed Forces Week has been a national celebration of the UK Armed Forces community, leading up to Armed Forces Day (formerly Veteran’s Day) on the third Saturday of June.
This year, Armed Forces Week takes place between 22nd – 27th June, and for serving personnel, reservists, veterans, cadets and military families, it’s more than just a date in the calendar.
Armed Forces Week is about recognising the commitment behind military life, celebrating the people behind the uniform and showing appreciation for a community that gives so much.
Throughout the week, towns, cities and military communities host events designed to show support and appreciation, such as:
- Flag raising ceremonies
- Community events
- Military displays
- Family days
- Charity fundraisers
- Parades and celebrations
Reserves Day
An important part of Armed Forces Week is Reserves Day, taking place this year on Wednesday 24th June 2026.
Reserves Day recognises the contribution of reservists across the UK Armed Forces – the people balancing military service alongside civilian careers, university, family life and other commitments. Reservists play a vital role in modern defence and regularly support:
- UK operations
- Overseas deployments
- Emergency response efforts
- Specialist military roles
One day they may be working a civilian job, and the next they could be training, deployed or supporting military operations. Reserves Day helps shine a spotlight on that commitment and the valuable skills reservists bring both to the Armed Forces and civilian workplaces.
Why Armed Forces Week matters
Military life is unique and whether you’re serving in the Royal Navy, Royal Marines, British Army or Royal Air Force, life in the Armed Forces often means adapting quickly, being away from home and putting service before everything else.
But beyond the public events, Armed Forces Week is really about people. It’s a chance to recognise the everyday realities of military life – the deployments, long hours, training exercises, relocations and sacrifices that often go unseen by those serving and those that support them.
For younger recruits or those early in their careers, it’s also a reminder that they are part of something bigger, a close-knit community built on teamwork, resilience and shared experiences. While Armed Forces Week celebrates service, it’s also an important opportunity to recognise families supporting from home too.
How you can celebrate Armed Forces Week
You do not need to be serving in the military to take part in Armed Forces Week, and whether you attend an event, support a charity, recognise a reservist on Reserves Day or simply take time to appreciate the people behind the uniform, every gesture matters.
Here are some ways people can get involved during Armed Forces Week:
Attend a local event
Many towns and cities host Armed Forces Week events, such as:
- Military displays
- Community fairs
- Live music
- Family activities
- Veterans’ events
- Parades
Support Armed Forces charities
Armed Forces charities continue to support serving personnel, veterans and military families throughout the year. Armed Forces Week is a good opportunity to donate, volunteer, fundraise and raise awareness for these charities.
Thank someone who serves
Sometimes recognition is as simple as a conversation or message of appreciation. If you know someone serving in the Armed Forces, a reservist or a military family member, Armed Forces Week is a chance to acknowledge what they do.
Learn more about military life
For many civilians, military life can feel quite distant or misunderstood. Armed Forces Week encourages people to better understand the realities of service life and the sacrifices involved, helping strengthen support for the Armed Forces community long after the week ends.

Armed Forces Week is an important moment of recognition for the people who serve, the families who support them, and the reservists balancing military and civilian life every day, because Armed Forces Week is not just about military service, it is about the people who make that service possible.
